It all started at that night, I was reading a play in the terrace when a pebble came flying to my head as I heard someone call my name, it took me awhile to realize who was calling me, but for the third time as someone called my name I realized it was Gadreel. I put my book down and looked down on him from above as I gave him an angry look for throwing the pebble. "Gadreel, What is it that you want from me?" as I cross my arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Suriel my friend! Lillith and I are going to be bound in holy matrimony! She's a singer! See us in the blacksmith's coffee shop tomorrow afternoon! I want you to meet her!" he said with such a happy expression on his face. Am I hearing right? He's going to marry? I don't think Ive ever met a girl with that name and besides He's no more than 20 years of age but who am I to oppose to his decision.
The Next day I fixed my collar as I await my meeting with Gradeel's Fiancé Lillith, I have been waiting in the Coffee shop for almost 30minutes as the customers one by one left as the sun started to set visible through the window infront of the shop and then alas I was left alone and I am starting to wonder whether Gadreel and Lillith would come.
When I was about to get annoyed of waiting, there was a ding as the door opened, I saw a very beautiful woman come in with her lips as red as the bodice she wore on her flowing Victorian dress, her blond hair perfectly framed her face, she threw her blue eyes on me as she tucked her misplaced hair back behind her ear and then a man held her waist as they came close to me.
"Suriel, this is my Fiance Lillith" Gadreel pulled her a seat then he sat beside her. There was an awkward silence for about 10 seconds till I broke it by asking them "So, When did you meet?" "I saw her on that post outside this place, and I asked her for a drink here and then we fell inlove. Isnt that Right Lillith?" Gadreel looked at her and she smiled at him then looked to me "He's been wonderful."
It was a beautiful conversation and I enjoyed it, I actually envied Gadreel since Lillith is both beautiful and smart if I could have her I would, but no, I cant betray my comrade for a woman. Yes I cant. Of course I couldn't. It's against the Law of Man and the Law of God. But yes she is like a goddess.
Then in the middle of the conversation Lillith tapped Gadreel on his shoulder as if trying to say something with her eyes. Then Gadreel stood up and told me it was time for them to go, so I bid them goodbye as they walked away I over heard their conversation.
"I'll walk you home Lillith its already dark." Gadreel said
"No don't worry about me Gadreel, I can take care of myself and besides did you forget? Its your lil' sister's birthday" She opposed.
I couldn't hear anymore of their talks since they were too far away I just saw Gadreel running to the direction of where he lived and Lillith walking the other way, I just sat till the man who owns the place would tell me to go home, I don't know why I didn't just move out of the door that night it felt like I was glued to my chair staring at the distance, all I could think of was Lillith and how beautiful she was.
I stood up in a rush and ran out of the door. Should I follow her? Maybe I should. And there she was just a birds eye view from where I was, I don't think she'll Ever notice me anyway, whats wrong with just doing this? Im not gonna steal her from Gadreel or anything.
It was like she was walking endlessly on the sidewalk as I was getting more curious to where she was going to go, its almost midnight and there was almost no more people left wondering around. I noticed the stars that night were exceptionally bright but they distracted me, I looked at where Lillith was but she was gone then I saw that I was infront of the other side of the town.
The other side of town was full of black-markets, scums of all kinds and even black magic or so they say. Normal people from our side of the town would usually not enter that part even if the people from the other side would cross to ours. Lillith couldn't be from there could see? She looked more civilized, proper and not to mention beautiful unlike the others from there.
I was about to pass an alley to get closer to the other side of the town until I saw a silhouette of a woman so I hid at the side, Maybe it was a woman from the town and she could be a witch and might steal my soul
I took a peek just to feed my curiosity. And it was Lillith! There was a dim light from the moon that could make me assure it was her. Her moves were awkward it made me wonder what she was doing, but I ignored it and thought that what I did was wrong.
I was about to walk away from the place where I had stood for quiet awhile util
I heard a voice calling my name, I turned my Head and saw Lillith looking at me giving me a sweet smile. I was speechless, what was I going to do? Tell her I followed her? Ridiculous! But wait should I lie? I don't know my heart was beating so fast, is she going to tell Gadreel? I think I started to become pale that moment.
I coudnt speak as she walked closer to me all I could hear was her footsteps and my heavy breathing and then the next thing I knew she was in front of me. "Lillith listen I
" I might as well tell the truth, but before I did she interrupted me.
"Suriel your such a sweet man, you followed me so you could protect me right? Atleast you did, Gadreel was hurrying to her sister, he didn't have to pretend to spend his time with me in place of his sister." She said as she kept moving closer to me although she was already close, too close
I stopped moving backward till I reached a brick wall on my back, I still couldn't speak; I was too caught up in the moment. The only thing in my mind was what if Gadreel would find out that I followed her and get mad at me, or if Lillith was mad at me, I'm starting to think she's from the other side of town, this thought got me more terrified.
I closed my eyes and all I could hear was my heart beat I couldn't think of running that time, my legs wer caught by fear. When I opened my eyes I saw lillith looking at me, her face growing closer and closer to mine until I closed my eyes once more, yes we kissed,
It felt so good to kiss her soft lips until I remembered the silhouette I saw in the alley, It was Lillith yes, and Suddenly, yes, Im sure it was
there was someone else there, It was
a man, and im sure it wasn't Gadreel, could it be?
I pushed her away from me immediately and wipe my lips, "You witch
" I said directly to her face, as she kept smiling at me this time her smile was different it felt insulting, "I love you now Suriel." She said in attempt to captivate me, but no, I wont be captivated by her this time.
"You and Gadreel are going to get married this Sunday and I don't think you told him what your real profession, how could you betray him Lillith?" I said as words are slipping off my mouth.
"ouh contraire Suriel, was it I who betrayed your friend? Or is it, Im not the only one that did?" she responded as I realized what I have done.
I didn't notice where she went all I know is that she walked away and all I could do was stare at the ground below my feet, how could I have done this?
I passionately kissed the woman my friend is about to marry. I can't hide this, No I cant, I have to tell him. But im afraid, maybe it's better if he doesn't know. Yes, what he doesn't know won't hurt him.
The days passed then it was the day before the wedding, we were told to go to the chapel to prepare for something's, I can't take it, I see them both all the time since I am my friend's best man in the wedding and I can't stand my conscience. I have to; he's there right in front of me scrutinizing the rings both of them are going to wear and Lillith isn't there, this is my last and best opportunity.
"Gadreel!" I shouted as I ran to him towards the altar.
"What is it Surial?" He asked, his voice felt so soft, I could tell he was really happy, but no, I have to tell him.
"You mustn't marry Lillith, she's a dirty woman! She comes from the other side!" I told him with force.
He stood up and faced me with angry eyes "How dare you say such thing about my Bride! You have no proof!"
"I do have proof, I saw it with my own eyes, who are you gonging to trust? Me or a woman you just met?" I asked him
He was furious and his fists we clutched, it was a good thing we were the only ones therr at the moment, I know that this isn't going to be good.
I was surprised because he calmed down and said to me "I know you love her Suriel, Its alright, but I know you, and I know her, none of you will ever betray me so please, I will marry her Suriel, Even If you loved her."
He misunderstood! "No, Listen Gadreel, Lillith and I kissed and also she's
"that's enough, please, for once support me in my decision Suriel! Your supposed to be my best friend! And no matter what you say I am going to marry her!" he said persistently.
I couldn't finish my words but fine, there's nothing I can do now, He's stubborn, too stubborn.
And that was yesterday, Now everything Is recked. The wedding? Ended before the " I do's", My Friendship with Gadreel? Dead like a Doorknob, and Lillith? Back to where she belonged.
I admit, it was partially my fault, alright not partially but almost entirely, but its for the greater good, And besides, now everyone knows that The Grooms Bride is a Whore.
